Hurricane/Tornado

Hurricane/Tornado

Tropical cyclone Betsy was the second cyclone to affect Vanuatu from 1991-92, and was considerably more damaging than its predecessor, tropical cyclone Tia.

Betsy was a category 4 cyclone and caused about two million dollars in damages.

The highest winds that it reached was 165 km/h.

The island that was worst affected was Efate, where a tree-meter storm surge washed away kilometers of coastal roads, parts of villages, and an entire resort.

On Pentecost Island and Espiritu Santo, many houses were destroyed or damaged, and roads were blocked by mud slides.

There were only two casualties.
